Is Wegovy on the PBS in Australia in 2026?
Not yet. As of July 2026, Wegovy is not listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. All patients pay full private prescription price regardless of Medicare card status.
What has been recommended
In November 2025, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) issued a positive recommendation for Wegovy 2.4mg to be listed on the PBS, but only for a narrow population:
- Adults with established cardiovascular disease (prior heart attack, prior stroke, or symptomatic peripheral arterial disease)
- AND a BMI of 35 or above (or 32.5 or above for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Asian populations)
Health Minister Mark Butler confirmed in late 2025 that the government intends to list Wegovy for this group. Price negotiations with the manufacturer (Novo Nordisk) are underway.

The current Australian Product Information includes a 7.2 mg once-weekly maintenance dose above the 2.4 mg dose that was previously the highest. [1]
It is not a bigger pen. There is no 7.2 mg Wegovy product registered in Australia. The 7.2 mg dose is given as three separate 2.4 mg injections, with the Product Information stating that injections can be in the same body area but should be at least 5 cm apart. [1] [2]
The Product Information describes this maintenance step for adults with a BMI of 30 kg/m² or above at treatment initiation after a minimum of 4 weeks on 2.4 mg. It also says that if no additional clinical improvement is observed with 7.2 mg, the dose should be lowered to 2.4 mg. For adolescents, weekly doses above 2.4 mg are not recommended. [1]
